Hand Techniques Forms (Tewaza Gata)

The Tewaza Gata are various fist and hand shapes used against Kyusho.

Outer Reversal Vital-Point (Omote Gyaku Kyusho)

The defender takes hold of the opponent's left hand with his right hand so that his thumb is placed on the back of the opponent's hand and his fingers wrap around the thumb-side edge of the opponent's palm. The defender's left thumb is placed next to the right thumb and the left fingers wrap around the pinkie-side edge of the opponent's palm. The defender's thumbs create pain by digging in between the bones on the back of the hand. The defender twists the opponent's wrist to the outside to lock out the wrist.

Inner Reversal Vital-Point (Ura Gyaku Kyusho)

The defender takes hold of the opponent's right hand with his right hand so that his thumb is placed on the back of the opponent's hand and his fingers wrap around the pinkie-side edge of the palm. The defender's left thumb is placed next to the right thumb and the left fingers wraps around the pinkie-side edge of the opponent's palm. The defender's thumbs create pain by digging in between the bones on the back of the hand. The defender twists the opponent's wrist to the inside to lock out the wrist so that the opponent will fall face down.

Sword-Hand (Shuto)

The defender's hand is held open with the fingers together and bent inward at a forty-five degree angle as though the defender were cupping water in his hand. The defender's thumb is placed on the middle knuckle of the index finger. The outer edge of the hand is normally used to apply pressure or strike.

(Chinken)

This is also known as Soga.

Water Fist (Suiken)

The defender holds all four fingers together and uses the tips by thrusting in.

Small Fist (Koken)

The defender uses his thumb to thrust in and apply pressure. This is also known as the Fist of Killing Together (Sosai Shiken).

Big Fist (Oken)

The makes a fist with his thumb on top and bends his thumb so that the thumb-knuckle forms a sharp point. The defender uses the thumb-knuckle to dig in and apply pressure.

(Koken)

The defender holds his pinkie down with his thumb while keeping his other three fingers pointed straight and together. The defender uses these three fingers to thrust in and apply pressure.

Double Fist (Ryuken)

The defender makes a fist but keeps his index and middle finger raised and folded at the middle knuckle. The defender uses the middle knuckles of these two fingers to dig in and apply pressure.

(Gosha Kudaki)

The defender and opponent face the same direction and the opponent is bent over at the waist. The defender holds the opponent's right hand similar to Inner Reversal (Ura Gyaku), but keeps his left hand on the opponent's shoulder. While the defender applies pressure down on the opponent's shoulder, he raises and rotates the opponent's hand, before dropping to his right knee to bring the opponent to the ground.

Intention-less Hold (Muso Dori)

The defender and opponent are facing each other. While the opponent is bent over at the waist, the defender holds the opponent's right hand with his left hand and the opponent's right elbow with his right hand. The defender lifts up with his left hand and pushes down with his right hand to lock out the opponent's elbow.

(Bassoku)

The defender applies pressure to the upper leg to lock out the knee.

(Sekisoku)

The defender applies pressure to the shin to lock out the knee.
