Koto Ryu Torigata no Daiji

Principles of Capturing Forms (Torigata no Daiji)

The Torigata include basic locks and joint manipulation.

Outer Reversal Hold (Omote Gyaku Dori)/ Wrist Reversal (Gyaku Kote)

The defender takes hold of the opponent's left hand with his right hand so that his thumb is placed on the back of the opponent's hand and his fingers wrap around the thumb-side edge of the opponent's palm. The defender's left thumb can be placed next to the right thumb and the left fingers can wrap around the pinkie-side edge of the opponent's palm. The defender twists the opponent's wrist to the outside to lock out the wrist.

Inner Reversal Hold (Ura Gyaku Dori)

The defender takes hold of the opponent's right hand with his right hand so that his thumb is placed on the back of the opponent's hand and his fingers wrap around the pinkie-side edge of the palm. The defender's left thumb can be placed next to the right thumb and the left fingers can wrap around the pinkie-side edge of the opponent's palm. The defender twists the opponent's wrist to the inside to lock out the wrist so that the opponent will fall face down.

Warrior Arm (Musha Ude)/ Warrior Capture (Musha Dori)

The defender captures the opponent's right arm using his left arm. The defender's left arm slides across the crook of the opponent's right arm until the left arm reaches the elbow. Then, the arm shoots down at forty-five degree angle toward back of the opponent's left hip. The opponent's arm will become trapped in the defender's left armpit and will start to bend out at the elbow. The defender raises his left forearm on the underside of the opponent's elbow to raise the opponent's arm causing a painful lock on the shoulder.

Arm Reversal (Ude Gyaku)

This is any lock in which the inner edge on the side of the elbow is used to create an arm-bar.

Reversed Inside (Gyaku Ura)

This is any lock in which the outer edge on the side of the elbow is used to create an arm-bar.

Large Reversal (Ogyaku)

The defender slides his arm under the opponent's armpit and places his forearm against the opponent's shoulder blade. The defender bends the opponent over at the waist which will torque the opponent's arm up behind his back creating pressure on the shoulder.

Eagle Reversal (Gyaku Washi)

The defender twists the opponent's arm up behind his back to cause pain underneath the shoulder joint. This is the same position police use when arresting criminals.

[Outer] Demon Breaker ([Omote] Oni Kudaki)

The defender bends the opponent's arm using his left forearm to push up and sliding his right forearm down slightly on the outside of the opponent's upper arm. The defender clasps his hands together and twists the opponent's arm back, creating pain in the shoulder.

Inner Demon Breaker (Ura Oni Kudaki)

The defender places the outside of his left wrist underneath the opponent's right wrist and the side of his right elbow in the crook of the opponent's right elbow. The defender bends his right hand back to grab his left bicep as he bends the opponent's arm back over the defender's right arm. The defender twists the opponent's arm entire arm around, back, and down, creating pain in the shoulder.
